Our History
In Marineta Street, in the place where there were two stone houses, in the 19th century, a Renaissance palace of the Kačić-Peko family was built in the Roman style. It was built in the style of a city fortress with external semicircular stone steps with a small fountain and a park.
At the beginning of the last century, the Porin Hotel building became a library, and in 1916, the City Library of the city of Makarska. After it became private property in 2002, the building was thoroughly remodeled and became one of the most beautiful and oldest buildings in Makarska, thus a cultural monument.
Today, this building is a modern and casual hotel that enchants with its interior and exterior beauty and will not leave anyone indifferent. The hotel is located 20 meters from the sea, and on the other side overlooks the main square and the city center. On both sides of the hotel there are sunny terraces, and another terrace at the top of the hotel from which you can enjoy the view of the sea, the surrounding islands, Biokovo and the whole of Makarska.

About Makarska
Makarska is one of the most famous tourist destinations on the Croatian coast, attractive due to its natural and climatic characteristics, diverse tourist offers and hospitable hosts. The sandy and pebble beach, almost 2 kilometers long, is one of its features.
Along the promenades lined with pine trees, there are various tourist facilities, comfortable hotels, catering establishments with gastronomic specialties, and plenty of entertainment for children and adults.
Makarska is located at the foot of the Biokovo massif (1762 m), which protects it from the intrusion of the continental climate and has lush Mediterranean vegetation, mild winters, long and warm summers with a refreshing mistral. The sun shines more than 2750 hours a year with an air temperature higher than 20°C from June to September, and the transparent sea from June to October has a temperature higher than 20°C. On summer evenings, the port is full of yachts and tourist excursion boats, and Kačić Square in the center of the city is full of young people enjoying entertainment and cultural events. As night falls, the Makarska waterfront is more lively, and the cafes, restaurants and disco bars are more and more full.
The city of Makarska developed around a natural harbor protected by the picturesque peninsula of Sveti Petar and Cape Osejava and is the largest and only such harbor between the mouths of Cetina and Neretva. The history of the city can best be learned in the Franciscan Monastery, which recently celebrated its 500th anniversary, and in its premises keeps a picture gallery, a library, a unique Malacology Museum and the “Mountain and Sea” institute.
It lies at 43° 17′ 38” latitude and 17° 1′ 20” east longitude, almost in the middle of the northwestern half of the Makarska coast.
